HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION

Green the Future Programme (GRETFUP) has a remarkable history that reflects its evolution as a youth-led non-profit organization dedicated to environmental conservation and community resilience in West Pokot County, Kenya.

Our journey began in 2014, when a group of passionate and socially conscious young individuals came together with a shared vision. They recognized the pressing need to address environmental degradation and the impacts of climate change in their local community. This dedicated group of founders believed that by harnessing the energy and creativity of youth, they could make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by environmental challenges.

Today, GRETFUP stands as a beacon of hope and change in West Pokot County. Its founders’ vision of a world where people and nature thrive in harmony remains at the core of its mission. As the organization continues to grow and evolve, it remains dedicated to empowering communities for a sustainable future, guided by its values of integrity, collaboration, sustainability, and inclusivity.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  •  Empower Communities: Work hand in hand with communities to provide access to green energy solutions and clean cooking technologies, enhancing their quality of life and reducing environmental impact.
  • Advance Sustainable Agriculture: Facilitate the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices, empowering communities to improve crop yields, enhance food security, and adapt to changing climate conditions.
  • Protect Biodiversity: Implement projects and initiatives aimed at restoring and preserving local ecosystems, safeguarding endangered species, and promoting biodiversity conservation.
  • Promote Climate Technologies: Foster research, development, and dissemination of climate technologies that address environmental challenges, improve resilience, and drive sustainable development.
  • Raise Awareness: Conduct awareness campaigns, educational programs, and training sessions to engage and educate communities, schools, and youth groups on environmental conservation and sustainability.
  • Mobilize Resources: Collaborate with stakeholders, secure funding, and establish partnerships to ensure the successful implementation of our initiatives.
  • Empower Women and Youth: Create opportunities for women and youth to actively participate in and benefit from our programs, promoting gender equality and youth empowerment.
